This was driving me absolutely crazy and hopefully it will help others (write a comment if it fixes your problem). I was getting significant delay when I would type in Microsoft Word and Outlook and when it would and I could not figure out what the problem was. I tried removing all my user settings, uninstalling/reinstalling Office. Nothing worked.
Turns out that the problem wasn't with Office at all. It was the Client Security - Password Manager program that comes pre-installed on ThinkPad laptops with fingerprint scanners. Uninstall it and everything works like it should.

I think this definitely helped me improve the performance of my T61 in Word 2007. Since I'm running Vista, I also had to mess with the registry as suggested here.
Thank you - this was driving me crazy also. Removing the client security worked.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! This works! After spending days, trying numerous suggestions from the web without success, I was about to take a dramatic step of erasing the hard disk and reinstalling everything. The troubling thing to me is that the MS-Word and Outlook were working perfectly with the CLIENT SECURITY software until out of the blue, it started being extremely slow with typing. Perhaps it has to do with the configuration of the CLIENT SECURITY. Well, that is for another post and another day. Thanks again!
I have this problem and do not have any oif the software mentioned. It is driving me nuts. Have tried the Norton suggestion, tried unchecking the repeat key box, tried everything I know to do, and i am fairly computer literate. Tried disabling the voice activation and nothing works i still have a delayed response typing. sometimes it will take a full five minutes to fill in after I type it.
PS: and when it does fill in it will pick up the last few letters typed and make it look as though I misspell everything.
